Mankato Loyola/Cleveland cross country coach Dale Compton has been named the Minnesota 2017 Class A coach of the year.

In his 14th season as head coach last fall, Compton led the Loyola/Cleveland boys to a first place in Section 2A and a third place in the Class A state meet. It was the second year in a row the Crusader boys made the trip to state.

“Mr. Compton knows us and what kind of workouts are best for us,” said sophomore Mitchell Johnston, the top runner for the Crusaders last fall. “He is always expecting great thing from every person who is on the cross country or the track team, not to mention that he is also just a great person. He is always positive. If I could choose a coach to have for the rest of my life it would be Dale Compton.”

Compton is a graduate of Loyola High School and Minnesota State University. He has taught high school art at Loyola since 2000 and is the Loyola/Cleveland track and field coach.
